Earning a Michelin Star, this inventive Thai restaurant is serving up a more simple menu for takeout during pandemic times. You’ll still get some of the best Thai food in town for a reasonable price.
The highlight has to be the Khao Soi - which is one of my favorite dishes of northern Thailand. A close favorite is the crispy chicken sandwich which is marinated in coconut cream.
It’s hard to beat freshly made Italian pasta that’s smothered in a delicious pesto sauce or fresh gnocchi tossed in a brown butter sage sauce! Finish your meal with one of the best tiramisu slices in San Francisco!
If you’re in the mood for delicious, authentic Indian/Pakistani food - Pakwan is up for the task. Prices are very affordable and delivery is fast.
Highlights include delicious garlic naan, eggplant dip (Bengan Bartha), juicy Tandoor Chicken, and Mango Lassi.
True proponents of making their food both look and taste good - Son & Garden is one of my favorite places for fusion Thai food.
Try out one of their special sets like the Morning SF for an amazing brunch box or Secret Garden Tea for an unforgettable afternoon tea experience.
Probably the least famous of all the Burmese restaurants in San Francisco, but my favorite because it more closely resembles the food I had in Myanmar. I find most of the Burmese restaurants in San Francisco serves ‘Americanized’ Burmese food.
Favorites include the Tamarind Fish paired with Coconut Rice, Tea Leaf Salad, and Tamarind Leaf Salad.
No respectable San Francisco food list is complete without mentioning La Taqueria, which I think is the best burrito in town. I don’t know if they just have higher quality ingredients but you can really taste it. They also don’t put rice in their burritos, so there’s that.
Highly recommended is the Super Carne Asada Burrito - make sure to tell them you want it pan fried on both sides.
This place reminds of the curry joints back in Tokyo! Their chicken/pork katsu and chicken karaage are cooked perfectly with crunchy exterior and juicy insides. The curry is especially flavorful and pairs very well with rice and pickled onions.
For delicious boba milk tea, TrueDan is a famous chain from Taiwan where boba milk tea originated.
I highly recommend the Fresh Milk with Brown Sugar Boba at 50% sweetness.
One of San Francisco’s classic North Beach pizzerias, you really can’t go wrong any of the pizzas here.
I’m a big fan of the New York Double Sausage, Classic American East Coaster, or the Classic Italian Cal Italia.
A bit different from Western style cheesecake, Japanese cheesecake is light, fluffy, and moist. I actually prefer it because I don’t feel so heavy inside afterwards. Give it a try - I promise you’ll love it!
Created during the pandemic, this interesting fusion dumpling joint serves up classic juicy pork buns (sheng jian bao) but twists things up with potstickers with chicken, corn, cheese, and sour cream.
Overall, everything here is super delicious and surprisingly affordable.
Famous for their birria tacos that are deep fried in cheese and dipped in a beef broth - this is comfort food to the max! Make sure to dip the taco in with each bite! It’s so good…
Also opened during the pandemic, this sushi joint serves up expertly made sushi. You can order the omakase sashimi combo (15 pieces) for a strikingly good price of $30 or order your own pieces a la carte.
Run and owned by a Vietnamese family who used to run a noodle shop in Dalat, Vietnam - Tin is a great place to go for authentic Vietnamese food.
Favorites include the Hue Roll, Grilled Lemongrass Pork with Vermicelli noodles, Claypot Fish, and Vietnamese Coffee.
One of the more famous pizzerias in San Francisco - they focus on Neapolitan pizzas with a California vibe to them. I absolutely adore the Margherita DOP pizza as well as the clam pie. Check out the menu for seasonal options as well.

Favorites include Chris’s (Honey Salt Pepper), Lime (Chili, Fish sauce, Lime), Green (cilantro, jalapeno, ginger), and Thai (sweet chili).
If you’re in the mood for some fantastic Sichuan food - Spicy King is one of the best and authentic in town. You know it’s good when all the clientele is Chinese!
Favorites include Spicy Fish Filet with flaming chili oil, spicy beef noodle soup, tan tan noodles, and ma po tofu.
Note: Sichuan food isn’t spicy but more of a numbing sensation, so don’t be afraid of a title like ‘flaming chili oil’.
It’s a shame that it’s so hard to find good Malaysian/Singaporean food in San Francisco since it’s so good! Lime Tree is pretty much the only place in town that has it and they do it well!
Recommended is the Singaporean Curry Noodles, Roti Pratha, and the Black Rice Pudding. All delicious!
Located in Castro, this cute French bakery excels in all manner of pastries and baked goods.
I highly recommend the traditional croissant, almond croissant, pain au chocolat, quiche slices, any of the breads, and the cookies.
Not quite pizza - this restaurant serves pinsa, which is technically a type of flatbread with pizza toppings. In my view it’s close enough to ‘pizza’ to be called pizza in my book and just as amazing.
I love the Margherita (tomato basil), Maranella (broccolini, sausage, burrata), and Corviale (mushroom, lardo).
The creator of the Sushi Burrito (basically just a big sushi roll) - they are now offering a Sushirrito kit so you can make your own at home, reducing the chance of having soggy seaweed.
I usually pick Yellowfin Tuna, Salmon, and Chicken Karaage as my fillings for the kit. It’s pretty delicious and fun to make for a group of 3-4 people.
My go to for great sandwiches, Lou’s Cafe has a wide selection to pick from and all of them are great! I love that they have dutch crunch bread as well.
