Looking for a quiet, relaxing respite from the sprawling metropolis of London? Bath and Castle Combe is just a hop and skip away from via train! The whole region is like a Downton Abbey episode come to life with it’s honey-colored limestone houses and quaint, narrow streets.

We recommend going to Bath from London with the convenient train service. The train we used was the GWR train from London Paddington to the Bath Spa station. During normal hours they leave every 30 minutes, so you’ll definitely be able to grab a seat with ease. I would recommend buying them in advance if possible though. The train is very comfortable and only takes an hour and a half to get to Bath!

The Bath Abbey is a spectacular architectural marvel in the center of the city. It was founded in the 7th century and is one of the largest examples of Perpendicular Gothic work. Take a walk around to soak in all the details of the outside and then gape at the beautiful stained glass windows and detailed ceiling inside.

Treat yourself to a spa day in BAth, England

In the 17th century, the city of Bath’s hot springs became famous for it’s restorative and healing powers. Since then, relaxation has been an integral part of daily life in Bath.

Look no further than No 15 Great Pulteney Hotel if you want to have an unforgettable, indulgent spa day. Start by soaking yourself in the giant cedar wood hot tub while sipping on herbal tea. Or you could choose to unwind in the wine barrel shaped sauna while you sweat away your worries. After you’re completely relaxed - let the well trained therapists give you one of the best massage treatments of your life. We chose to do the Deep Tissue and the Back/Foot/Scalp Massages - it was so relaxing that I totally fell asleep during the treatment many times! Make a reservation here.

The quaint village of Castle Combe is a short 20 minute drive from Bath and one of many day trips from Bath. Castle Combe is often called one of the prettiest villages in England and it’s easy to see why! Full of stone cottage lined streets, the village seems untouched by the passage of time.

Castle Comb has been used as a backdrop for iconic productions such as Downton Abbey, Warhorse, Stardust, and Dr. Dolittle (1967).
